Hampden Estates Rum Distillery and Lunch

Hampden estate is one of the oldest sugar estates in Jamaica. Renowned throughout Jamaica’s rum history for its full, intensely flavorful pot still rums, it continues today to be the quintessential heavy pot rum of choice throughout Europe and other parts of the world. Join us on the Hampden Rum Tour and journey into the heart of this working distillery, circa 1753. Learn about the 260 year old rum making process still in use today and taste our award winning Rum Fire and Hampden Gold rums. Explore the picturesque grounds surrounding the Hampden Great House while getting lost in the history of this magnificent estate. Surveyed in 1743, Hampden operated as a large sugar plantation circa 1753 under the ownership of Mr. Archibald Sterling of Scotland. In 1779 Mr. Sterling built the Hampden Great House of which the ground floor served as a rum store until the early 1900s. Hampden Estate is firmly set in Jamaican history as it established the Hampden Presbyterian Church, circa 1824, the first of that denomination to be established in Jamaica. During World War 1, Hampden constructed the Hampden Wharf in Falmouth for shipment of its sugar and rums which is today a major entry port for the cruise ships that make port stop at Falmouth. Including in the tour are the following; Welcome Drink - Rum Punch or Special Hampden Iced Tea Introduction/Brief history of the Estate and owners Walk along the picturesque grounds Tour of the Historical Working Distillery (over 260 years of rum making) Sampling of two Multi Awards Winning Rums (the exceptionally smooth white over proof Rum Fire and Hampden Estate Gold.) Sampling of freshly cut and squeezed sugar cane juice or coconut water Hampden Rum cake sample Lunch of jerk chicken or jerk pork serve with two festivals (special fried dumplings Jamaican style) and purified water. Anyone less than 18 years of age is not allowed to do the Distillery section of the tour. Requirements: Comfortable Clothing, Walking Sneakers or Hiking Sandals.
